Chair made with a patchwork of steel sheet offcuts. As much as possible the pieces were kept as found with their shape dictating the form of the chair.

Patch

Various items produced at the Beasley Brothers Repair Shop as part of the exhibition Eternally Yours at Somerset House. The repair shop organised and run by Carl Clerkin invited a range of designers and makers to repurpose donated and forgaed parts into new items of furniture. Following the exhibition the outcomes of the repair shop went on to be exhibited and auctioned at

A chair designed to work specifically with square pitch perforated sheet the idea being to work with the material and reduce waste. The pattern of the perforation guides the overall shape and in turn the negative spaces of leg panels become the backrest.

Furniture and interior direction for Redemption Angel. The interior and furniture are intended to compliment and enhance the building’s character much of the original features had to be retained so it was important for the new additions to harmonise with this.

Redemption Angel

D-I-Y stool. The basic stool is designed to be made with a single length of standard size timber, using just hand tools. The design is intended to be expanded upon adapted and re scaled for tables, benches etc. See PDF below for plans, please download make and enjoy!

Daybed with matching table. Designed using the same materials as the 

, standard sized Douglas fir planks and plywood. The demountable frame is secured with stainless steel hardware. The seat is upholstered using a Japanese cotton twill with pinched edge detail.

A light weight relaxed chair a combination of memories of a childhood spent on the back of my dads motorbike and a more recent interest in African chairs. Like those bikes it consists of materials and parts found around the workshop.

Sister

A steel frame sofa with two overlapping cushions forming the seat, backrest and arms. The frame is bolted together consisting of seven parts, easily demountable when needed. The intention was to have the sofa as stripped back as possible removing all unnecessary parts leaving an exposed frame and upholstery so that there is simply the cushions and support.

Donut

A wooden demountable chair centred around the use of a half round timber section inspired by a steel tubular D-section. The chair uses a notched and bolted joint referencing tube notching in steel fabrication. It is intended to be assembled by the user saving on storage and transportation costs while also allowing greater flexibility within the home as it can be repeatedly flat packed and reassembled.

Stair Seat

 solid textile board, designed specifically to work with Really utilising a folding V cut net (a unique feature of the material) that is secured with a friction fitting tie.

The two part net nests together neatly within the Really sheet to ensure an economical use of the material that also keeps waste to a minimum.

The stool was originally available in a limited quantity at DSMNY accompanied by a clothes rail and hanger designed using the same approach and material.

Circular

Stool and Chair designed to streamline the making process reducing the unit price without sacrificing material quality. The chairs use planed all round hardwood in three standard sizes and species available off the shelf. Seat, leg and support. The planks are cross cut to length before being sanded and oiled, they are then assembled using random species with screws and glue. The design is a simplified version of another

ISPA

A pair of stacking Chairs made with left over cuts of Oak that were either too short or narrow for other uses. The legs and under support of the seat use long narrow rip cuts left from the cutting of Oak panels with the seat and back using shorter cuts left from Oak planks. The angles and mitres throughout are both designed to aid the use of these awkward cuts and also utilise the mitre cuts already present on some of the off cut material used.

Outdoor table and chair set. Intended to be light yet robust with an all steel construction and powder coat finish.

Piazza

A range of seating designed for JW Anderson for use across their retail locations. The idea was to produce a set of seating that uses a common form and can be re-produced as needed for new locations and projects. The chairs take the familiar form of a shaker chair while using materials integral to my practice, in this case Tubular ERW steel section. A variety of sections are used, Oval, Round, Rectangular and Flat. For example the regular chair uses rolled tube for the backrest, the High chair a combination of three different sections stacked creating a backrest with a slight incline. Although designed as a whole the collection was intended to be split which each chair having a unique quality that should fit a variety of situations and interiors.

JWA Standard

A stacking stool with perforated seat. The perforation uses a bowling ball style pattern for easy handling.

Ejner

A sofa designed for my step son Nicholas, his only requests – It has to be comfy, Seat himself and two friends and he was to choose the fabric (to match his green velvet Vans). From there I decided to keep all elements beyond the upholstery to a minimum, all that seemed to be needed was a simple frame to keep the cushions together. The frame consists of two U shapes and four angles bent from 3/4 inch ERW box section by my Dad on a machine he uses daily in his workshop. The frame requires no welding and little finishing, bolting together allowing for an easy to assemble and less labour intensive construction. The overall idea being to create an economical sofa that can be knocked down and reassembled multiple times with the hope that Nicholas can take it with wherever life takes him.

A homage to Thonet in steel. A light weight versatile chair with rolled 20mm Tubular ERW Steel frame. The tubular steel creates a surprisingly light yet strong frame which is intended to work with either an upholstered or wooden seat.

Furniture for Blanchflower a bakery/restaurant soon to open in Altrincham Manchester. The furniture is a take on classic bistro furniture with the aim of being compact and light whilst durable, offering flexibility and easy adjustment to the layout as the restaurant will open throughout the day and into the evening. Although not pictured the project also includes larger rectangular tables including a table at 3.6 meters in length.

A collection of seating that stacks and packs. Designed to fit within a modern lifestyle of frequent moves and smaller spaces. The self-assembly Stool and Chair are intended to provide an affordable and flexible option that can easily be packed for a move or stacked when space is needed. Stacking/Packing has been produced in a way that could easily be made in larger runs with the same components and Tubular steel used throughout further extending the idea of an affordable utilitarian piece. The frames have been finished with a Passivated Zinc coating, an industrial process generally used on large runs of smaller components rarely seen on items of this size.

HIGH Stool

The work is an experiment in steel whilst also an homage to the string chair. By using an all steel construction the string has become a structural element in turn reducing the structure itself. Although at first brutal in appearance I hope to show the beauty and fragility that steel can possess much like the string of the chair that was at first the inspiration.
